Avoid obsolete phrases in cover letters

Avoid obsolete phrases in your cover letter, such as "This letter is written in response to ..."; "Enclosed please find ..."; "Per your request ..."; or "Please consider this my application for the position of...." Instead, begin your letter with a statement that says something about your skills and experience. For example, an IT professional might start the letter by saying, "Lowering conversion costs is my area of expertise."
